The Truth

The Truth is a project that exists somewhere between memory

What started as a silly drawing bcame and index of translating memory and friendship. The drawings turned into a kind of diary using themes from our jokes and hikes and activities. We drew from our collective memories what happened in our lives and imbued The Truth with them. Some elements stuck and appeared in multiple renditions, like the spirals on the tree that were maybe painted on the tree once in real life, but maybe they werent and we just drew them once and continued to draw them forever? the pattern on his shirt is always present but it changes themes and usually has hidden elements or words in it. Sometimes the illustrations are silly, sometimes they’re nightmarish. Sometimes they feature me instead of Patrick and we call those “lies”. The character represented in these illustrations is an homage to Patrick, it started as him but quickly disolved into a representation of the embodiment of the truth within us all- an unposed awkwards and sometimes uncomfortable candid depiction of what its like to be human if I may! For 12 years we have drawn different versions of the same illustration- creepy guy making a silly face sitting in a tree with the word “TRUTH” written on it but it has become so much more. I will never stop telling the truth!

Micro-Crochet Mushrooms

I make these out of #10 embroidery thread with a small crochet hook! Each mushroom takes around six hours to crochet and as much as six more hours to both add the beads and dirt to the bottom and to embroider the spots onto the cap. The crochet shell is then stuffed firmly with batting, they feel really neat to hold. I designed the pattern myself and perfected it over time!
